Who We Are:

Living Light News is a non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry started in 1995. We provide writers with a great opportunity to use their God-given skills and impact lives for Him. We publish on a bi-monthly basis in two Western Canadian markets (Edmonton, AB and Saskatoon, SK for a combined circulation of more than 60,000 copies) and an online edition (www.livinglightnews.org). Living Light News has twice been as North America's Best Christian Newspaper by the Evangelical Press Association. 

Our Mission:

The ministry was formed out of a need to reach out with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the use media, in a manner that glorifies God and demonstrates His love, we seek to partner with the Body of Christ to proclaim the Good News of Jesus to the world.

Through news, information, and resources, we also seek to unite the Body of Christ and to enrich, encourage, and enlighten Christians, helping them to live Godly lives based on Biblical principles.

Living Light News is about people and topics both Christians and non-believers can relate to. Stories and personal testimonies present the life-changing gospel message in a powerful, contemporary and non-threatening way.

We print positive and uplifting stories that glorify God and help readers see the fruits of a personal relationship with Christ, as opposed to organized religion. We don't write anything that is negative, divisive or controversial, and we aim to have all stories be of interest to non-Christians.

Our Guiding Principle:

The writing is the seed that we plant in the hearts and lives of our readers. We rely on the Holy Spirit to grow the seed and provide fruit.

Writing We're Looking For:

• profiles of prominent Christians in such areas of life as sports, entertainment, business and the arts who place Christ first in their life. (800-1,000 words)
• news stories from within the markets we serve (650 words) 
• family-focused articles to improve our readers' lives and possibly provide a Christian perspective on such topics as weight loss, parenting, fitness, finances, relationships, personal growth. These stories, which are not written from a first person perspective, provide quotes from 'experts' and steer readers to related resources such as books and websites. (600-650 words)

Please Note: We're sorry, but we don't print any fiction or poetry. 

What we're looking for in a writer:

Writers should have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have a strong desire to spread the Good News about Him to others. Writers need to be sensitive to the needs of our non-believing readers. Stories should be seeker-sensitive and written with pizzazz.

Our writers are keenly aware of the power of a well-written story that touches the reader's emotions and challenges them to rethink their lives and commitments. They want to show that choosing Christ is a positive and life-changing choice.

What we want to see in the writing:

• conversational, down-to-earth style which avoids editorializing
• stories that cover the basic W5's of writing
• interesting details and quotes that make the story come alive
• correctness in details of spelling, punctuation and rules of grammar

Submitting a story: 

E-mail us your query to shine@livinglightnews.org. Tell us briefly what kind of a story you want to write, why our readers will enjoy it, the number of words, whether you can provide photos, and your anticipated time-line.

Getting Assignments:

We assign news and feature stories to writers across North America. Send us samples of what you've done and let us know you're interested in taking on assignments. If you're a fit we'll look at giving you a shot.

Payment:

Articles and news stories: 8 cents/word US or 10 cents/word Canadian for first North American serial rights; 5 cents/word for subsequent rights, payable on publication. Purchase of rights includes possible posting on our Website.
